Is Brazil a Lock to Win their World Cup Group?

Brazil is not only the favorite to win the World Cup, but they have the second biggest odds, behind Argentina, to win their group.

However, they are not in the easiest group, but are also not in the toughest one.

Brazil is in Group A along with Croatia, Mexico, and Cameroon.

Here are the betting odds for Group A

Brazil -400
Croatia +600
Mexico +800
Cameroon +2500

Bet365 already has odds posted on the first two round of matches and for Brazil their two matches will be the toughest. In the opening match of the tournament they play Croatia and are major betting favorites posted at -350 with the Croats at +850 and a draw line of +450.

Croatia has been a giant killer in the past, just asks England, but they did not have the easiest time in qualifying and were lucky to draw Iceland in the European playoff tie. Luka Modric leads the squad and is a great MF, but the Croats are very overmatched against Brazil, especially when it comes to offense. Still, as the host Brazil does have a lot of pressure on them while there is not much on Croatia since they are supposed to lose.

Brazil plays Mexico in the second match and they are, obviously, the big betting favorite again at -300 with Mexico at +750 and a draw line of +400. Not sure why Mexico has better odds against Brazil than Croatia does, but they have worse overall odds to win the group.

Mexico does have a solid offense led by Barcelona’s Javier Hernandez, but they are outmatched by Brazil in the midfield. Still, if they can press the envelope on offense and not get dominated in time of possession they have a chance. Mexico has advanced to the round of 16, but no further, in the last five World Cup tournaments.

Bet365 does not have odds posted for the Cameroon match, but at +2500 just to win the group you can be sure they will be MAJOR betting underdogs. The African squad does have Samuel Eto'o and Alex Song, but they rely way too much on Eto’o on offense, as they do not have much firepower up front.

It would not only be a shock if Brazil did not make it out of the group, but win it as well.
