Colombia World Cup Odds Hold Steady

Colombia is making their first World Cup appearance since 1998 and while host Brazil and Argentina have the best betting odds the Colombians are a solid squad.

They have the seventh best betting odds at +2500 and they have the best odds to win their group.

Colombia was a little lucky to be drawn into one of the weaker groups. They are in Group C with the best World Cup betting odds to win it at -125 at Bet365 followed by Ivory Coast (+350), Japan (+400), and Greece (+700).

As of March 24th 2014 Colombia is FIFA’s fifth ranked team in the world, but they have not looked impressive in their last two friendlies. In their last two friendly matches they have played to draws against Holland and Tunisia.

However, they did beat a good Belgium team in a friendly late last year and in South American qualifying they beat Chile and played to a draw against Argentina on the road.

The Colombians have a solid offense led by the duo of Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco and Teo Gutiérrez from River Plate and while these strikers do not get the press of Neymar or Lionel Messi they are both solid and can instill fear in any defense.

Falcao is at +2500 to be the top goal scorer at the World Cup at Bet365.

The duo of Mario Yepes and Luis Perea is the anchor of the defense and while both are great defenders their best days may be behind them as they are 38 and 35 years old respectively.

The midfield may be the issue for the squad and Abel Aguilar must lead that group and feed the offense and play solid defense. The group Colombia is in does not have a team with a dynamic offense, but Ivory Coast is a experienced squad, Japan is great tactical team, and Greece has a great defense.

Colombia has high hopes this World Cup and they have the squad that can do some damage. It would be a major disappointment if they did not advance past the group stage, which they have not done since the 1990 World Cup.
