England - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup

England has advanced to the quarterfinals in two of the last three World Cups, but they have not advanced further than that since they won in 1966. They have a lot of pressure on them and there is pressure on them to advance further than they did in South Africa when they were a disappointment and did not move past the round of 16.
There is no lack of big name players for the Four Lions, but goalkeeping is a continued weakness, as is their inability to beat the top tier teams. That is a concern for them heading into Brazil since they are playing in a tough group along with Italy, Uruguay, and Costa Rica.

How They Advanced:
While England was not in the toughest European qualifying group they were not in the easiest having to face Ukraine and Poland. The Four Lions came through qualifying unbeaten with six wins and four draws. They won three of their last matches, but beating big teams is a concern and that was highlighted in qualifying. Facing Ukraine, who lost to Portugal in the European playoff ties, the English played to a couple of draws.
Early Prediction:
There is not a tougher prediction than England in this World Cup or the last few for that matter. Uruguay had to play an intercontinental playoff to advance to Brazil and Italy was great in qualifying. However, England will make it out of this tough group. They may not win the group, or they just may, but the Four Lions will progress and not only do so, but advance to the quarterfinals yet again.
