France Looks to Forget 2010 World Cup

France was the biggest disappointment of the 2010 World Cup where they flamed out of group play with one draw and two losses. They came into South Africa after being the runner-up in the previous World Cup. However, this time around in Brazil they have a good squad and they have the sixth best odds at +2000 to win the tournament.

The French were under a ton of pressure in their European qualifying tie against Ukraine after losing the first leg on the road 2-0. They regrouped and won 3-0 at home in the second leg to qualify and come into the World Cup with a lot of confidence.

One of the reasons that France has a solid chance in Brazil is the fact that they are in a pretty weak group. While they are not in the easiest group they have the best odds to win playing with Ecuador, Switzerland, and Honduras. Bet365 has odds posted on the team to win the group with France the favorite at -150, followed by Switzerland (+275), Ecuador (+400), and Honduras (+3300).

It is key that France wins the group, as if they are the runner up they will likely play Argentina in the round of 16, where they would definitely be the betting underdog.

While France had to win a European qualifying tie to advance to the World Cup they were solid in the qualification process. They were in a tough group with Spain and held the defending World Cup champions to a draw in the away game and a slight 1-0 loss at home.

Franck Ribery, who was great in qualifying scoring twice as many goals as any other teammate, will once again lead France. The French have a solid attack with Ribery and Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud, who both have better odds to win the top goal scorer in the 2014 World Cup. In World Cup betting odds for the top goal scorer in Brazil Karim Benzema is at +2500 with Olivier Giroud at +3300 and Ribery, surprisingly, only at +400.

France finished 29th in the 2010 World Cup and it will be shocking if they do not improve on that this summer.
