France - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup
After being the runner up for the 2006 World Cup the French were the major disappointment in South Africa in 2010 losing to South Africa and Mexico coming in last in the group.
They narrowly missed on qualifying for the World Cup this time around and the pressure is on them in Brazil. However, France has the best odds to make it out of their group, which is one of the weakest in the draw with Switzerland, Ecuador, and Honduras.
France has many big name stars on the squad, such as Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema, but the defense is a concern. Another concern is can Les Bleus hold up under the immense pressure?
France Odds to win World Cup 2014: +2000
France Odds to win Group E: -150
How They Advanced:
France only had one tough team to face in their European qualifying group, but that team was 2010 World Cup winner Spain. While it was no surprise that the French came in second to Spain in group play the first leg of the European playoff tie was. It looked bad for France losing the first leg to Ukraine in Kiev 2-0. However, Les Bleus roared back and beat Ukraine 3-0 in the second leg to book their ticket to Brazil.
France’s only loss in the group stage was at home to Spain and on the road against them they played to a draw. They scored 10 goals in their last four qualifying matches and that includes getting shut out 2-0 to Ukraine.
The French will bounce back in Brazil. They will easily win Group E, as the Swiss will give them their only real test, but they will still win the match. After group play France will have a lot less pressure on them and they will perform.
Les Bleus will win in the round of 16 and they have a possible match up in the quarterfinals with Germany. That will be the end of the French ride, as Germany is simply too good. Still, a quarterfinals run is good for France, who finished 29th out of 32 teams in 2010.
