Ghana Flying Under the Radar – 2014 World Cup Betting

Ghana may be the best team from Africa that is playing in Brazil this summer, but even in the Group of Death they may be flying under the radar. Obviously Germany and Portugal, with Christiano Ronaldo, are the two powerhouse teams in the group and the United States has an up and coming squad. However, Ghana has the third best betting odds to win the group and they have a solid team packed with talent.

The Black Stars made it to the round of 16 in 2006 and in 2010 became only the third team from Africa to make the World Cup quarterfinals. Oh yeah, along the way to the quarters in the last World Cup they knocked off the Americans, who they will face in group play this summer.

Kwadwo Asamoah has the nickname of the "younger version of Essien” will team with the real Michael Essien to lead a solid midfield. Andre Ayew is a young striker that will team along team captain Asamoah Gyan to pace the offense. Overall the Black Stars have 11 players that are playing in the top leagues in Germany, France, Italy, England or Spain.

Ghana is a very solid technical team and that may pose a problem for the USA team that has been mistake prone in the past. They face the Americans in the first match, Germany in the second one, and Portugal in the last one. They are slight World Cup betting favorites facing the USA and big underdogs facing Germany.

Odds are not currently set for the Portugal match, but there is a good chance the winner of that match will finish second in the group and advance to the last 16.

The Black Stars have the talent and the world-class players to challenge all teams in the Group of Death and it would not be a surprise if Ghana did not advance to the round of 16 for the third straight World Cup.

Ghana won their first two friendly matches after qualifying for the World Cup beating Namibia and Montenegro and they will be tested in their last one facing Holland at the end of May.
