Group C Betting Odds
Group C is one of the weaker groups in the World Cup with Colombia having the best odds to win. Colombia is playing in the World Cup for the first time in 16 years and if they do not, at least, make it out of the group it will be a major disappointment.
Ivory Coast has a solid offense, Japan is one of the most technical teams in the tournament, and Greece has a great defense. With the squad they have Colombia should make it out of the group while the other spot is up for grabs.
Here are the teams in Group C and their odds to win (live updates at Bodog) and see Group C prop betting lines at the bottom of the page:
Colombia was solid in South American qualifying finishing behind Argentina and playing five teams that are playing in Brazil they only lost one match. Their offense is their strength led by the Monaco duo of FW Radamel Falcao and MF James Rodriguez, who is a great playmaker. Falcao has solid odds of +1600 to win the Golden Boot.
While the defense is the concern, which showed in some of the qualifying matches, they did play to a 0-0 draw facing Argentina, which is a squad with a loaded offense.
Ivory Coast +350
Ivory Coast has the likes of Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Salomon Kalou on the squad and have the talent, but has not fared well in big tournaments. They have to be glad to be drawn into this group after being in the Group of Death in 2010.
The Elephants were not beating in African qualifying, but their defense is the weakness, which shoed by giving up two goals in each of their last two qualifying matches.
Japan comes into the World Cup after winning the Asian Cup and they have a very smart and tactical squad. The way the Japanese play may cause problems for the attacking teams of Ivory Coast and Colombia. Japan won the Asian qualifying for the World Cup, but did not have to face any top-tier teams.
Japan has made it out of the group stage in two of the last three World Cups. Their offense is not a great one and will need FW Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United and attacking MF Shinji Okazaki from Mainz 05, who scored eight goals in qualifying, to generate an attack.
Can Greece come up with a shocker and win Group C like they did in their surprising win in the 2004 European Championships? The Greeks have a great defense and they finally have a good striker in Konstantinos Mitroglou. However, the squad has the worst odds to win the group and even with Mitroglou their offense is their weakness.
In European World Cup qualifying Greece only gave up four goals. Still, with their defense they may really be a headache for Ivory Coast and Colombia, who both have a solid offensive attack.
