Ivory Coast - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup
Ivory Coast had to be happy to be drawn into a pretty weak group in Brazil after being drawn into the Group of Death in South Africa. They have the star power and have been called the "golden generation", but they have not really won any big tournaments. Still, with the likes of Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Salomon Kalou you cannot count them out this summer.
The Elephants have the star power and a great attacking squad, but are seen as a very immature team, one that chokes under pressure, and their World Cup record is less than stellar.
Ivory Coast Odds to win World Cup 2014: +12500
Ivory Coast Odds to win Group C: +400
How They Advanced:
Ivory Coast finished first in African qualifying Group C and then defeated Senegal in the mandatory play-off, 4-2 on aggregate. They were great in qualifying, as they did not have any losses in 10 matches. Even though the Elephants went undefeated they were not in a very tough group and in two of their last 10 matches they gave up two goals.
The Ivory Coast defense is mediocre at best and in qualifying they only had four clean sheets and none in their last four matches.
Ivory Coast has the second best odds to make it out of group featuring Colombia, Greece, and Japan. They will beat a tactical Japan squad in the opening match, but lose their second one facing an offensive team much like themselves in Colombia. That leaves the last group match facing Greece. The Greeks have a stellar defense and that will frustrate the Elephants. Who will lose and not advance to the round of 16.
