Luis Suarez Odds - Club at the End of Summer Transfer Window 2014

While the World Cup is in full swing and there have been many great matches the big news as of late is all about Luis Suarez. The Uruguay striker has played well, especially in the second group match facing England, but in the round of 16 clinching match facing Italy he, supposedly, bit Giorgio Chiellini. He faces being banned for the rest of the tournament and maybe longer and the Suarez ban odds went up quickly at Bodog.

FIFA has officially charged Suarez with biting and FIFA announced Wednesday that its disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against the player.

- Bitten by a shark while swimming in the ocean (one in 3.7 million)
- Struck by lightning once across an 80 year lifespan (one in 10,000)
- Dying from a hornet, wasp or bee attack (one in 75,852)
- Being killed by a firearm in the United States (one in 6,509)
- Living on a coastline and experiencing a tsunami (one in 50,000)
- Hit by an asteroid (one in 700,000)

While the biting incident has HUGE ramifications for Uruguay and their key striker will the incident have any significance on where Suarez will play next season?

Even though the incident happened in a FIFA tournament can it have an effect on domestic league play? The answer to that is yes, as FIFA states that serious infractions can include punishments outside of their competitions, which would put in jeopardy Suarez’s domestic play for next season. He currently plays for Liverpool.

Former Leeds United manager Neil Warnock stated that the bite might have been a move to force Liverpool to cut ties with their best player. He stated, “It wouldn’t surprise me if it [the bite] was planned. I know it sounds silly but I thought he would do something to trigger a move away. If all of these big clubs are after him, then it doesn’t surprise me at all. He may get banned for Uruguay but would still be able to play for a club. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a clever act. If there was any chance of Barcelona or Real Madrid coming in for him, he would be determined to get away this summer.

Both Real and Madrid have been linked to getting Suarez’s services in the off-season. However, after the biting incident will the Spanish giants make a move? This is the third time Suarez has been charged with biting and he was banned for several matches after the first two.

Many experts have stated that even though Suarez is one of the best strikers in the world, he led the England Premier League in goals last season, his latest incident may hurt his chances at getting a big contract.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler said that he "wouldn't be surprised" if Suarez was forced to leave Liverpool and has suggested his play is not worth the behavior of the Uruguay national.
