Papua New Guinea 2 : 1 Tahiti Final
Netherlands - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup
Netherlands breezed through European qualifying and they could not have been happy to be drawn into the same group with Spain, who they lost to in the 2010 World Cup final. Still, the Dutch are favored to make it out of group play and they have one of the best offensive squads in Brazil.
Robin van Persie is one of the best forwards in the world and led European qualifying with 11 goals. If there is one weakness in the squad it is their defense, but can any team stop them from racking up the goals? The last time the World Cup was held in South America Netherlands was the runner up.
Netherlands Odds to win World Cup 2014: +2800
Netherlands Odds to win Group B: +250
How They Advanced:
Netherlands won European World Cup qualifying Group D with 28 points winning nine matches and playing to one draw. It was rather impressive that Netherlands blew through their qualifying group, which was not an easy one facing the solid teams of Romania and Turkey.
The Dutch offense was awesome in qualifying, as they scored at least two goals in every match and in six of 10 they scored more. In their second to last match facing a decent Hungary squad Netherlands put on a show scoring eight goals.
Netherlands will make it out of Group D, but like in the 2010 World Cup final they will not beat Spain. They will easily beat Chile and Australia and snag the second spot in the group. The Dutch have a great squad, but the draw after group play is not in their favor to say the least. The runner up on Group B, which Netherlands will be, will face the winner of Group A, which will be host Brazil.
The Brazil vs. Netherlands match will be an entertaining one to say the least, but the Dutch will not beat the hosts on their home soil and they will lose in the round of 16.
