Nigeria - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup
Nigeria has played in two of the last three World Cups and finished in the bottom of the group both times. However, they are coming off a win in the 2013 African Cup of Nations and they are not in the toughest group, well after Argentina.
Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike are an attacking trio that gives any opposing defense a scare and they have a solid midfield. However, Nigeria is not a deep squad at all and while GK Vincent Enyeama has been great for Lille in France Ligue 1 the back line defense is a big concern. Nigeria has the talent to get out of the group phase, but that has been the case in the last two World Cups and the team was disappointing.
Nigeria Odds to win World Cup 2014: +20000
Nigeria Odds to win Group F: +900
How They Advanced:
Nigeria qualified by being the CAF Third Round Winners and beating Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate in the playoff. They played great in qualifying and did not lose one single match with seven wins and three draws.
Nigeria did not play in the toughest of groups, but were solid on both sides of the pitch. In their last three matches they scored six goals and in their 10 qualifying matches they only gave up more than one goal one time.
Ok, so Nigeria will win their first match facing Iran and lose their last one facing Argentina, so it, pretty much, comes down to playing Bosnia and Herzegovina in their second one. Their midfield will win this match and Nigeria will advance to the round of 16. However, even though they will face the winner of Group F, which may be the weakest group in the tournament, they will not advance to the quarterfinals.
