South Korea - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup

South Korea, aka Korean Republic, has made it to the last 16 in each of the last two World Cups, but can they do it in Brazil? They did not look great in qualifying, but they are not in the toughest of groups and they have a good offense.

The Koreans are great at controlling the ball on the pitch and they will have to use that tactic and have a strong tournament from their attacking midfield to progress to the last 16 for the third straight World Cup.

How They Advanced:

South Korea finished second in in Asian qualifying Group A, but they were far from impressive. In their group they finished behind Iran and only beat out Uzbekistan on goal differential. Their toughest matches in qualifying were against Iran, who also qualified for the World Cup, but they lost both matches. However, their defense was solid only conceding three goals in their last three matches.

Early Prediction:

This one is a tough call and while they will lose to Belgium and beat Algeria their match against Russia is a tough one. Russia won their European qualifying group finishing ahead of Portugal. The Koreans will put up a fight against Russia, but they are out-matched. Look for Korea to win a match in group play, but they will not advance to the last 16.
