Top North American Team Betting Odds - World Cup 2014
All of the teams from North America are long shots to win the World Cup, but you can bet on which team will go the furthest. Not only are all the team long shots, but also Costa Rican and Honduras have the worst betting odds to win their respective groups while Mexico and the USA have the third worst odds. These odds are available at Bovada.
While Mexico is not in the toughest group they are not in the easiest one either having to face Brazil, Croatia, and Cameroon. Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez leads the solid Mexican attack, but the defense is not a strong one while the midfield is good, but not great.
Mexico faces Cameroon in their opening match and that may be their best chance to take three points with a win, as the African nation also has issues on defense and has the worst odds to win the group. They are big betting underdogs facing host Brazil, and there is a good chance their match facing Croatia will determine who advances to the last 16.
Even if Mexico finishes second in the group and advance to the last 16 they will face the winner of tough Group B, which includes Spain and Holland.
USA may have the best squad of all the North American ones, but they have not looked good in World Cup tune-ups and they are playing in the Group of Death. The Americans have a good midfield and a decent defense, but their attack is less than dynamic. The Americans are in Group G with Germany, Portugal, and Ghana,
USA faces Ghana, who has eliminated them from the last two World Cups, and if they do not take three points from that match it is a major uphill battle to advance to the round of 16. Their defense will really be tested in their next facing Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal and they end group play facing a stacked Germany squad.
If the USA comes in second in their group they have a decent draw and will face the winner of Group H, which is one of the weaker ones in the tournament.
Costa Rica +1200
Costa Rica is playing in one of the tougher groups with Uruguay, Italy, and England. The defense, which went 476 minutes in World Cup qualifying without conceding a goal, is the strength of the squad and Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz is a solid striker even though the offense is not a great one. The midfield is the weakness of the team, which may be magnified when they face Italy and England in group play.
They face Uruguay in their first match and they need to play good defense in that one facing a solid Uruguayan attack. Italy and England each have superior midfields and Costa Rica may have to score of the counter-attack.
Honduras has worst odds than Costa Rica to be the top North American team even though they are in a weaker group. They are in Group E with France, Switzerland, and Ecuador. Carlos Costly and Jerry Bengtson lead a decent off, but the midfield and defense are not strong.
They are very overmatches in their first game against France and Honduras has to hope that the French implode like they did in the 2010 World Cup. Ecuador in their next match is a winnable one, but they will need to play great defense facing an attacking squad. Honduras’ last group match is facing Switzerland, who has a great midfield and defense.
