USA - Odds to Win 2014 FIFA World Cup
The Americans cannot be happy to be drawn into the Group of Death and on top of that they face a Ghana squad, who ousted them from the 2010 World Cup. USA has the worst betting odds to make it out of Group G and with good reason with Germany and Portugal in the group.
There is a lot of hope for the American squad led by coach Jurgen Klinsman, but losing to Jamaica, Costa Rica and Honduras in qualifying are concerns since they face a couple of giants in group play. The 13th ranked FIFA team at time of the draw has their strengths, but getting out of the Group of Death may be a tall order for the Yanks.
United States Odds to win World Cup 2014: +15000
United States Odds to win Group G: +1200
How They Advanced:
USA came in first in CONCACAF "Hex" qualifying with 22 points after a rough start. However, the Americans won their last three qualifying matches and six of their last seven. Can the USA win off their home soil? That is a big question for them. In their three qualifying matches on the road facing team that made it to Brazil in Honduras, Costa Rica, and Mexico they suffered two losses and one draw.
Their offense came up big at the end of qualifying scoring seven goals in their last three matches. Everton G Tim Howard had three clean sheets in the last five qualifying matches to help the Americans book their ticket to Brazil.
The Americans will not advance out of the group stage, but they will not finish at the bottom either. They will beat Ghana to avenge their 2010 loss to them in South Africa, but that is the extent of their wins.
Germany is simply too good a squad to lose on the counter-attack, which is may be the best chance the Americans have to score. The match facing Portugal will be a good one, but Portugal was in the Group of Death in 2010 and advanced and will do so this summer as well.
