World Cup Odds Impacted by Injured Stars

The World Cup is where stars come to shine and a few teams need their big guns to capture the trophy.

In the beginning of January, there are a few star players injured and while each is on the road back they will be needed next summer for their national squad.

Here are some key players that are currently injured and who are causing some early uncertainty on the World Cup 2014 betting menu at sportsbooks like Bovada.

Lionel Messi (Argentina) – Messi was in Argentina for several weeks rehabbing from a hamstring tear and he is back training with Barcelona. While Argentina has many other attacking players how can you not miss, arguably, THE best striker in the world? Messi has the best odds to win the top goal scorer at the World Cup at +800.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)  - Ronaldo recently came back from missing time with a thigh injury and perhaps no other player is needed more by their country. This can be seen as in the European playoff tie against Sweden where he scored all four goals in the two legs including a hat trick in the second leg win, which booked the squad’s ticket to Brazil.

Ronaldo is tied with Brazil’s Neymar for having the second best odds to win the top goal scorer this summer.

Andrea Pirlo (Italy) The 34-year old playmaker has shown he has lots of gas in his tank leading Italy to the World Cup and Juvetnus to the top of the Serie A table. He is recently back after suffering from ligament damage in his knee and his play in the midfield and leadership will be needed by an Italian squad that looks to win their fifth World Cup trophy.

Robin van Persie (Holland) The Dutch striker has missed several weeks with a groin injury and is slated to return soon. He is key this summer for the Holland squad, as he leads a dynamic offense and will be needed since the defense for the Dutch has issues. Van Persie has World Cup betting odds of +2500 to be the top goal scorer in Brazil.
